Crowns and bridges are devices that assist a person when a tooth needs to be removed or is severely damaged in some way. Crowns can only be removed by the dentist, while bridges may be withdrawn by the patient.
Crowns centennial are sometimes referred to as caps. Crowns are individually made devices that cover a damaged tooth or an implant. They are permanently cemented in with a specific type of dental cement. Crowns keep your teeth even and work just like regular teeth to chew and keep your bite healthy. Depending on your preference, you can opt for gold crowns or natural white crowns. Discuss your choices with Dr. My G Tran, who will provide you with the answers you need to make the correct choices.
Bridges cover the space where one or more teeth used to be. Bridges can be removed or cemented into the mouth next to the natural teeth.
Bridges keep your teeth in alignment by preventing the neighboring teeth from shifting. A misalignment of the teeth may cause problems with your bite, gum problems, or a jaw problem called TMJ. Well-made bridges look like natural teeth, preserve the beauty of your smile, and can be made to appear just like your natural teeth.
The decayed or damaged tooth will be made smaller, so the crown will fit properly in your mouth. Next, an impression of your teeth is taken to construct a mold, from which the crown will be made. If you are getting a porcelain crown, your dentist will pick the proper color for your crown so that it will match your natural teeth.
There are two types of bridges currently available for use. When using a traditional bridge, a crown is made of porcelain. The crown is then fused to ceramics or metal placed into the mouth. Maryland bonded bridges are created using porcelain fused to metal or of plastic teeth and replacement gums attached to a porcelain or metal framework. Maryland bonded bridges are bonded to the nearest natural teeth.
Crowns and bridges may last for a person’s entire life. However, sometimes a tooth will become loose and fall out. If the natural tooth next to the crown or attached to the bridge becomes diseased, the crown or bridge can become damaged. Keep your natural teeth healthy and your prosthetic teeth, such as bridges and crowns, looking great by brushing and flossing at least twice daily. An annual visit to Dr. Tran will also keep your teeth, crown, and bridge in excellent condition and help your dental appliances to last longer.
